Flesh Fly 003 256.JPG

Despite being a lover of all things carrion, this extremely common species of fly doesn’t actually lay its eggs in dead stuff. Instead, the female carries and hatches her eggs inside her own body and then gives live birth to her young. This species is also the reason why it’s not always a good idea to pick and eat wild Blackberries in September, but as I’ve talked about that elsewhere, I shan’t bother repeating myself here. Oh well, you know the old saying….“It’s an ill wind that gathers too many cooks on a rolling bird in the hand”!
